Sojourn, Crossing the Wilderness of Alienation and Separation

Sojourn, Crossing the Wilderness of Alienation and Separation

                                        Divorce Recovery

Excerpt....

We give words to separations: dismissal, desertion, annulment, divorce, death. Each one is distinct in its finality, each one an evisceration as stark as a gutted piano. How can any such wreckage ever again sound with music?

And yet, music is possible. The song will sound once more because at the moment of His own separation from the Father, Jesus said “It is finished.” And the veil of the Temple, the curtain that separated the Holy One from His own creation, that separated me from the Father, that curtain ripped top to bottom, a breach through which His Spirit invites all to come, to be made whole. Restored. Reunited.

In Jesus, no separation is ever final.

Unless it’s a separation from His grace. Imagine hearing the words,

“Depart from Me; I never knew you.” Separation forever from His glory, His love. He has promised we will never go through a separation of this magnitude, we who have been united to Him by faith: “There is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of Sin and Death.”[1] Free from sin and death.

Joined to Him by the power of His resurrection. United to those I love through His restoring power into a union that will never be broken, we have life everlasting with loved ones where we’ll never, ever experience separation again. No more farewells. No more words, “I never loved you. We’re through.” No more words, “I have bad news. Your father..…” He overwrites all the words of despair with His own life, in His own blood. He seals us by the Spirit so that we are His holy possession, appointed to be joined with Him forever. Forever and ever.
