Sojourn, Crossing the Wilderness of Waiting
Sojourning in the Wilderness of Waiting
Sojourn.
A Bible word, for sure. No one says, “I’m just gonna sojourn here for a while.” But ‘sojourn’ has a rich history for believers who are strangers and sojourners in this life.
In the wilderness of waiting, I must choose God’s way or my own way. Will I wait on God’s timing, or will I try to manipulate the situation on my own? Leverage an outcome? Deploy the grappling hook to haul myself out of the quagmire? Or will I let God work out the details in His time and in His way? Obviously, walking by faith in the wilderness of waiting means staying put, staying ready until God says, “Go.” When we can’t see why we’re in the paint pots or how to get out, we trust His nature, that He’s good, that He’s working behind the scenes on a scale we can’t possibly grasp, in fact on a scale beyond time and space. Walking by faith is waiting for Him to release us in His will, as the delay, meanwhile, conditions us by the truth and power of Romans 8:28: He is working all things together for good, a process that must occupy a few petabytes of the divine mind because His will encompasses a cosmic scale, a scale apprehended only by faith.
Sojourners persevere as they wait for God's leading.
About Crossing the Wilderness of Waiting
"Crossing the Wilderness of Waiting" is one section from the full, published book, Sojourn, Crossing the Wilderness by Faith. The book is about what God is up to when He sends so many of His servants into the wilderness. Even Jesus experienced the searing trial of the wilderness. The series gives reasons for why God sends us into the wilderness and how to let God consecrate the pain. The entire book or individual sections are valuable resources for your counseling ministry.
